Well, March is already over, which means that my time with The Secret World is also drawing to an end. Of course, I’ll surely return to this game in the future, but I’m afraid it will have to take a backseat to some of my other games. Anyway, what have I been up to this past week? Well, it involves vanished cargo vessels and university sweaters!
This week was dedicated to tanking dungeons in TSW. Sadly, I didn’t have enough time to check both low-end dungeons, so I focused the time I had on the Polaris. The Polaris is a giant cargo ship, property of the ominous Orochi corporation, that has suddenly reapperead and is now causing some problems. You and your fellow bee-people are send out to investigate, and must fight against rotten corpses, mutated monsters and an homage to Cthulhu himself. Now that’s what I call a nice weekend trip!
I knew the dungeon from my previous characters, but I had never tanked before in TSW. It turns out that tanking in this game is no different than in most other MMORPG’s: you get the monster’s attention, make sure your healer is keeping you alive, and catch all those bullets meant for other party members. It’s nothing new, though it feels different since your using weird magic while your companions deplete the enemy’s health bar with machine guns instead of swords and bows.
Something that feels really different is the atmosphere and vibe in this dungeon. Once you’re actually in the cargo vessel, the sounds of the sea zombies mixes with that of creaking metal, splashing waves and wails not from this world. The lighting effects add to the eerie setting, and that really sucks you into the game. While it’s all about loot and boss tactics in the end, the picture painted by the scenery and sound effects certainly makes this more than just another dungeon.
Next to plundering almost sunken ships, my character has finished the missions at Innsmouth Academy, earning him a slick university sweater. I should have never found out that this piece of clothing exists for real, for now I just have to have it!
For my final week, I will dive into the PvP of TSW, and see if that can fascinate me for more than an hour. Until then, enjoy the screenshots, and share your opinion in the comments below!
