No, I really did not. Actually, my plan was to write about Game of Thrones Ascent, the first Facebook game I bother with since that one where you run your own farm and annoy your friends with stupid requests. But I can’t. There are two reasons for that.
First of all, the current state of Ascent makes it nigh impossible to play. Loading times are bizarre, some of your clicks don’t register at all and it seems in general that this game should have stayed in Closed Beta for a few more weeks. But I don’t want to talk trash about it too much, because it might be all better in a few days. No, my second reason is far more important.
The second reason, is that I just have to get this out of my system. I just have to share this with you, but I feel guilty already because I will be joining that massive mob that has already written and talked about it. But what do I care? Since when do I care about what others think? Well, here it is then:
Sony, thanks for announcing the PS4.
Phew, there, this article is about the PS4. Well, that’s not entirely true. I don’t want to write about what we already know about this suppossedly Messiah of the gaming industry (really, did you hear the guys on stage talking about it? If you had taken some sentences out of context, they could have been taken from the sermon of a sect leader). Also, I don’t want to praise any of the upcoming titles for it, because none of them really catches my attention so far. Except Destiny, as far as that will be a launch title. You know how I feel about that game.
What I do want to share with you is that I’m thankful that Sony has started the next console war. Finally, after what seems an eternity, new consoles will enter the market and try something new. Yeah, the Wii U is already here, and it does some nifty stuff, but now that the big fish named Sony has showed its teeth, it’s only a matter of time before the other sharks smell the blood of hyped gamers, and chase it with hunger in their financial bellies.
Call me a sado-masochist, but I enjoy the console wars. I never participate in them, but I love to read the gazillion fanboy comments on forums and websites, and I marvel at the marketing expenses companies go through to put their darling on the market and into the customer’s living room. Now that the PS4 is slated for this year’s holiday season, I can’t wait for Microsoft’s move at the end of April, and I wonder how Nintendo will react to Sony’s obviously steal of the one awesome feature of the Wii U. It will be a war again, and its fires will burn oh so brightly.
Well, now that this is out of my system, I’m off again to read the texts of drooling fanboys and so-called experts. Thanks for reading this, and if you think I’m crazy and should be put down (or have any other motivation to contact me), hit me up in the comments below!
